Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Pin the Moment.
This is a shared world map where people place a single pin to mark a moment, memory, or presence somewhere on Earth. Each pin includes a short message and becomes part of a finite collection of one million pins.
The limit is intentional. It gives weight to participation and ensures the map remains meaningful rather than endless. Once all pins are placed, the project is complete in its original form.
The price helps keep the space intentional. A small payment discourages spam, supports the infrastructure, and encourages people to pause and think before placing a pin.
You get one permanent pin on the map, a short message (up to 140 characters), an optional attachment (image, YouTube video, or link), public visibility, basic statistics, and a permanent shareable link.
Yes. All pins have the same size, visibility, and behavior on the map. No pin is boosted, featured, ranked, or prioritized over another.
Yes. Each pin is a separate action and requires its own payment. There is no limit to how many pins one person can place.
No. The project does not use accounts, profiles, or logins. Pins exist independently of identities.
No. Pins are intentionally final. Because we don’t collect user identities or ownership information, pin content and appearance cannot be changed after placement.
You can review your pin carefully before purchasing. Once placed, changes are not possible, so we recommend taking a moment before confirming.
Each pin has a meaning category such as “I was here”, “For someone”, “In memory”, or “A beginning”. These give context but do not affect how the pin behaves or appears.
It can be, and that’s okay. Many people want to mark remembrance quietly and respectfully. All meanings are treated equally.
Yes. Adding an image, a YouTube video, or a link is optional. Pins can also be text-only.
No. Adult, sexual, pornographic, or explicit content is not allowed. This includes explicit images, videos, links, or text. Pins that violate this rule may be removed.
This project is not intended for advertising. While links are technically allowed, overt promotion, spam, or commercial messaging may be removed to protect the integrity of the map.
No. Pins do not expire or fade out. Once placed, they remain visible for the lifetime of the project unless removed for policy violations.
Occasionally, we offer optional custom pin designs in limited quantities (for example, seasonal designs). These only change how a pin looks, not how it behaves or how visible it is.
No. Pin style is chosen at the time of placement and cannot be changed later. This keeps the project simple, fair, and anonymous.
Yes. Every pin has a permanent public link that you can share. Opening the link shows the pin on the map along with its message.
Pins may be removed if they contain prohibited content, spam, hate speech, or violations of the content rules. Removal is not reversible.
The map will remain online as a complete archive. No new pins will be added. The project is designed to have a clear and final end.
